Java History
👉 As we know Java is a Class based, Object Oriented Programming Language developed by James Gosling and his team at Sun Microsystems.
👉 The team which was working on this project was named Green Team.
👉 The project of Java programming language was started in June 1991.
Why name was Oak?
👉 The project, lead by James Gosling and his team at Sun Microsystems in the early 1990s, was originally named "Oak." The name was inspired by an oak tree that stood outside Gosling's office.
Where Does the “Java” word come from?
👉 The original name of Java was "Oak" but in 1995 its name was changed from Oak to Java. Because Oak was already the trademark of a company named Oak technologies.
👉 One more reason for changing the name Oak to Java was , actually Oak was the name of a tree which was also the national tree of several countries.
👉 When the Green Team was collectively selecting the language name. All those team members gave suggestions of some names like Dynamic, Revolutionary, Silk, Jiot, DNA. They wanted a name that would represent their technology. A name which is Revolutionary, Dynamic, Lively, Cool, Unique. According to James Gosling, in the end there were two name suggestions. One is Silk and the other is JAVA. Green Team found the name JAVA quite unique and ultimately this name was kept. Java was the name of an island in Indonesia. Where first coffee was produced. It was developed in Sun MicroSystem.
